Cycling - Via Verde de la Sierra - 36km - Easy Level

Cycling - Via Verde de la Sierra - 36km - Easy Level

star-5
8
This is a very popular ride along the wide, unsurfaced track of a disused railway line. We do the downhill version of this route, making it an easy ride, suitable for families and leisure cyclists. The route meanders through valleys, olive groves, forests and along flowing rivers. You will pass through 30 tunnels (the longest is nearly 1km in length) and over 4 viaducts. Ride past a vulture colony, high up on the cliffs, and pop into the visitor centre to watch the “vulture-cam”. This route is self-guided; we drive you to the start point at the old station building in Olvera (approx 45 minutes from Ronda) and the minibus meets you in Puerto Serrano to bring you back to Ronda.

MTB - Ronda to Cueva del Gato - 25km - Easy Level

MTB - Ronda to Cueva del Gato - 25km - Easy Level

star-5
3
A short, easy ride, suitable for families and leisure riders. We ride directly out from Ronda, via a mix of tracks and quiet roads to a popular beauty spot known as the Cueva del Gato or "Cat Cave". This ride takes you through the local countryside, passing small farms, olive groves, vineyards and fields of sunflowers. The Cat Cave is named for the shape of the cave mouth in the mountain. A waterfall at the cave entrance flows all year round, however dry the weather, as the mountain contains a network of water-filled tunnels and caverns. Each day, thousands of litres of crystal clear (and very cold) water exit the cave via the waterfall to create a stunning, blue water pool. There is time for optional refreshments near the cave before we return to Ronda in our minibus.

An easy, 30km ride, suitable for families and leisure riders or an alternative, moderate route up to 45km for mountain bikers. We ride directly out from Ronda via a mix of quiet roads and tracks, to the cavehouse village of Setenil de las Bodegas. You will pass through varied rural Andalucian countryside, including vineyards and arable farmland, along old Roman routes and undulating trails. In Setenil, we see where many of the houses, bars and restaurants are a unique type of “cavehouse", built directly into the limestone rock of the river valley walls. There is time for optional tapas and refreshments at one of the cavehouse bars, sitting beneath huge, overhanging rock ledges before we return to Ronda in our minibus.

star-5
1
This route makes a circuit to the west of Ronda, passing through rural countryside and through two small, sleepy white villages. It is an off-road version of our Leisure e-bike ride: Cueva del Gato & Montejaque, which means less road and more tracks and paths. From Ronda we head down into the valley directly below the town, for great views up to the main Puente Nuevo bridge. We climb out of the valley and then drop down again to the Guadiaro river, where we make a short stop at the Cueva del Gato, “Cat Cave”. This is a local beauty spot, with a small waterfall and beautiful pool of crystal clear (but very cold!) water. We climb steadily up into the mountains, through the village of Benaojan and on to Montejaque, where we usually make a quick coffee stop on the village square We continue down through farmland into the valley of La Indiana before using trails which head up through pine-forested hills to climb back to Ronda.

MTB - El Chorro - 44km - Moderate Level

MTB - El Chorro - 44km - Moderate Level

This is a classic cross-country ride through isolated hillside landscapes to Andalucia’s "lake district" and finally to the famous El Chorro gorge. If you enjoy being out in the wilds and covering some cross country miles with amazing vistas throughout, then this ride is for you. A 20 min drive from Ronda takes us up to a high point where we begin our ride. We use a mixture of tracks and eventually quiet roads, cycling through pine forest and out into open countryside, with mountain ranges all around. We enjoy a fun, long descent to the town of Ardales before heading into strange, rocky landscapes around a network of lakes and dams. We then head to a Mirador overlooking the lakes. We finish near the dramatic gorge of El Chorro, a narrow river channel which cuts between two 150m tall limestone cliffs, with views of the recently restored Caminito del Rey walkway, perched high up on the inside of the cliff.

This circular route takes us through valleys and hills, enjoying open countryside and farmland. We ride past local bodegas and ride below the Roman amphitheatre at Acinipo. We visit the unusual "cavehouse" village of Setenil de las Bodegas and then take an easy ride back towards Ronda. This ride begins with a descent into Arriate and a short section through the base of the valley. We then take a steady climb up into vineyard territory. The bodegas here produce some fine local wines and offer fantastic panoramas over the valley of the Serrania de Ronda. We pass the tiny, sleepy viillage of Venta de Leche before dropping down through olive groves to the river valley to visit the picturesque village of Setenil de las Bodegas for a refreshment stop. We see where many of the houses, bars and restaurants have been built directly into the limestone rock of the river valley walls. This easy e-bike tour takes you from Ronda through rural countryside to finish at a local organic bodega for a vineyard tour and wine tasting. The wines are accompanied by your choice of tapas or a delicious 3-course lunch. Ronda enjoys wonderful countryside right on its doorstep, so from the centre of town, we are soon amongst olive groves and vineyards, arable fields and ancient holm oak forest. We descend through the small white village of Arriate and then head through more olive groves towards the hills north of Ronda, which are located ideally for grape-growing and are the base for many of the local vineyards and bodegas. We finish at the family-run Bodega Joaquin Fernandez, where a family member will take you on a tour of the vineyard and introduce you to their own organic wines. Delicious, home-cooked food accompanies your tasting. After time to relax and enjoy the views from the vineyard, we return to Ronda by minibus.

e-Bike - Acinipo and Setenil Circular - 47km - Moderate

e-Bike - Acinipo and Setenil Circular - 47km - Moderate

star-5
1
This ride takes us in an undulating loop via two of the oldest sites in the area. The route includes a couple of significant climbs (no problem with the e-bikes) as we ride through rural farmland and past woodland, hillside vineyards and acres of olive groves. We drop down into the valley of La Indiana and then make a 12km steady ascent. At the top, are the Roman ruins of Acinipo, a town built on a high escarpment more than 2,000 years ago to house retired roman soldiers. A few yards behind the rear seats of an ampitheatre is the edge of the escarpment, with amazing views across to the Grazalema mountains. We then enjoy a great descent into a valley and the white village of Setenil de la Bodegas. This was also a Roman settlement but is likely to have been inhabited for many centuries beforehand. To this day, “cavehouse” dwellings built into the rock form the basis of many houses, shops and cafes. We enjoy a short refreshment stop in one of these cafes before heading back up the hill.
