The Basics

Lucerne city tours will take you to the lake’s most memorable viewpoint: looking out over the Chapel Bridge (Kapellbrucke) from the shore of Old Town. Alternatively, enjoy a hike around the lakeside villas; take the Golden round trip and travel by boat, cogwheel railway, and aerial cableway to the most spectacular viewpoints on Mount Pilatus; or gaze down over Lucerne from the summit of Mount Rigi.

1-Hour Catamaran Cruise on Lake Lucerne
What an overwhelming, breathtaking view and amazing catamaran, we barely felt we were in the water. On the other hand, they let the catamaran and the view speak for itself but they didn’t add anything memorable to the experience, so on my opinion, they could improve that. Nonetheless, the experience it’s still worth doing it.

Not extremely exciting. But a nice quiet boat trip. I didn’t find it to be a sightseeing though, no information over the area

Lake Lucerne Panoramic Sightseeing Cruise
Booked this hour trip online which was very easy to do. The vessel was spacious and spotlessly clean. There are panoramic views throughout and a lovely cafe. Friendly staff. A must do at 22 fr a person.

Weekend Wine Tasting by Lake Lucerne
We had a wonderful experience, starting from our guide Luis who was really nice, warming, welcoming and on top of that, he really knew the city. Luis was a nice support on the translation of the experience (tasting and explanation) and advised us for what to do after the wine tasting. The owner of the vineyard and winery was very gentle and knowledgeable about the different wines we tasted, making us wanting to repeat the experience. We bought a few souvenirs, obviously, but the cherry on top were the amazing photos we got taken from our guide who’s shown being a real professional as a photographer as well. Thank you.

Lake Lucerne Panoramic Sightseeing Cruise
Didn't have much expectation considering we went in December. But the cruise, the staff the lake and the beautiful panaroma of the surrounding snow clad mountains made it one of the most memorable evenings of my life..

Lake Lucerne Panoramic Sightseeing Cruise
Great scenic tour, but I didn't feel like there was much actual history in the tour. Would recommend going for the pretty views. Go earlier in the day for good light and warmer winds.

Lake Lucerne Panoramic Sightseeing Cruise
My family enjoyed this sightseeing cruise, although the weather was not ideal. Still, it was enjoyable with lots to see. If you have the time wait for a nice day to take the cruise.

Enjoyable late afternoon cruise

Lake Lucerne Panoramic Sightseeing Cruise
I enjoyed a short cruise on Lake Lucerne late one afternoon. The views on both sides of the lake and back to Lucerne were wonderful but I had no idea what I was looking at. Unfortunately I could not hear the commentary through the supplied audio pack because there was rather a large Indian tour group on the boat and they were very noisy and drowned out the sound. This is no fault of the organisers.

What an amazing view of this lake. Me and my daughter enjoyed a lot. It was lucky enough that didn't rain that day. Beautyful beautiful place to visit. Highly recommended.

How to Get There

Lake Lucerne is located in Central Switzerland, 30 miles (50 kilometers) south of Zurich, or roughly 45 minutes by train. Trains run regularly from Zurich to the city of Lucerne, located on the lake’s northwest shore. Daily ferries run between Lucerne city and Fluelen at the southeast tip of the lake, taking about three hours one way and stopping at lakeside towns such as Vitznau, Beckenried, and Brunnen. You can also travel to different lakeside attractions on a sightseeing boat tour.

Day Trips in the Lake Lucerne Region

Once you’ve scaled the summit of Mount Rigi and ridden the world’s steepest cog railway to the top of Mount Pilatus, brave a ride to the “Top of Europe” at Jungfraujoch or hike the notorious Eiger Trail around the North Face of Eiger Mountain. You could also visit the alpine village of Engelberg and take in the views from Mount Titlis, ride the open-air cable car to the top of Mount Stanserhorn, or take a ride on the Golden Pass Scenic Train.
