A beautiful town in the heart of the Tuscan Maremma, Pitigliano is one of the Most Beautiful Villages in Italy and Orange Flag. Also nicknamed The Little Jerusalem, because starting from the sixteenth century it hosted a large Jewish community within its walls, Pitigliano is now one of the most fascinating historic villages in Italy and an unmissable stop on a trip to Tuscany. Perched on a tuff cliff, the town rises imposingly on the valleys of the Lente, Meleta and Prochio streams, offering a wonderful view of the wild and unspoiled nature of this area of the Tuscan Maremma.
The imposing castle, which belonged to the Aldobradeschi family first and then to the Orsini family, dominates the village that arises from the tuff cliff on the river Lente. A network of alleys that descend to overlook the valley, the extraordinary ancient Jewish quarter (closed on Saturdays), the deep cellars dug under the streets, the Etruscan gate, the hidden corners of the Fratta district, welcome the visitor dazzled by the incredible famous panorama of Pitigliano. We will also visit the extraordinary cave roads excavated by the Etruscans in the surroundings of Pitigliano and we will try to discover the secret of their origin.
