The Basics

Due to their location just 8 miles (13 kilometers) outside downtown Kuala Lumpur, the Batu Caves are an integral part of most city sightseeing tours. And, with the 272 steps leading up to Temple Cave recently painted in vibrant colors, the scene is now even more impressive for photos. Tours that combine a visit to the Batu Caves with an evening boat ride to see the Kuala Selangor fireflies are a popular choice with nature lovers, while activity-packed city tours, some of which include skip-the-line entry to the Petronas Towers, are ideal if you’re on a time budget.

Great tour
Champ was a great tour guide and started well by being on time. His local knowledge was very informative and easy to understand. Going to Batu Caves early was a good idea as it was getting busy by the time we finished. Definitely recommend the private tour as it was a great way to get around rather than a bus tour.

Malaysia Countryside and Batu Caves Tour from Kuala Lumpur
Very well priced little tour, ticked all the boxes, driver was informative and friendly. The Batu caves were great, the monkeys weren't as cheeky as we were warned. The trips to the other locations were fascinating - especially the pewter factory. Would highly recommend for a great half day trip - definitely the morning departure to avoid the heat of the day.

Malaysia Countryside and Batu Caves Tour from Kuala Lumpur
Good trip with just 4 people so special attention from Henri Batu caves were a bit tacky but ticked that box. All 3 workshops were interesting with no pressure to buy. Recommended.

Batu Caves,Waterfalls and Hot Springs Tour With Lunch
Guide picked us up from our hotel on time and the car was very clean. He was knowledgeable of the history of KL & Malaysia, thus made the trip interesting. He ensured we received good attention at the Indian restaurant and throughout the trip ensured we were okay. Recommend both the trip and guide to future customers.

Raz our driver did excellent job. He picked us up from the hotel. During the trip he gave a information on KL and Malaysia. He was very professional. The Selangor Pewter tour was excellent and Raz went out of his way to stop at the Chocolate factory on the way back to the hotel.

Harry was a very professional but also very social character. He will do anything to assist you in making your tour the best as it could be. He’s also a very professional photographer so if you get a chance get him to take a few pics.

Private Half-Day Batu Caves and Cutural Tour in Kuala Lumpur
Awesome guide- very nice and knowledgeable. Only complaint is that he sat in the car while I toured the cave and the temple so I didn’t have anyone to take photos for me or any explanation of the places.

Malaysia Countryside and Batu Caves Tour from Kuala Lumpur
Tour guide great, learnt a lot about Malaysia during the drive. Pick up was easy. The Selangor Pewter factory tour was interesting as was learning how east coast Batik is made. Batu Caves were fascinating. The stairs are not for the faint hearted. The heat can have a impact on how comfortable it is to climb. Need to watch out for the monkeys as they are not shy of people and are happy to steal food right out of your hands if they see an opportunity.

Private Half-Day Batu Caves Waterfalls and Hot Springs Tour
Overall satisfactory tour, even tough the guide was 2 hours late. But after that the tour was nice. I really enjoy of the cascades and thehot springs. The cave was awesom, butpacke with tourists.

Things to Know Before You Go

  • Be mindful that the Batu Caves are a sacred site so be sure to dress modestly.

  • Avoid feeding the monkeys as they can behave unpredictably.

  • Make sure you stop at the easy-to-miss Cave Villa, located halfway up the steps.

  • If you want to explore the Dark Cave, make sure you book a tour in advance.

When to Get There

In the early morning, the Batu Caves are far less crowded and much cooler, making for a much easier climb to the top. Plus, less people means better photos on the brightly colored steps. During the Hindu festival of Thaipusam, which generally occurs in January, millions of devotees flock to the caves.
