Museum of Trade Ceramics
The Basics
In addition to displaying pottery, the Museum of Trade Ceramics details the rich history of Hoi An, highlighting the coastal city’s former trade relationships and artistic heritage. The pottery, some of which is displayed in only shards and fragments, comes in a myriad of colors and patterns and provides insight into how Hoi An flourished during the 18th century. A selection of drawings showcases the different types of architecture found in Hoi An.
Things to Know Before You Go
The Museum of Trade Ceramics is a must-visit for art lovers and history buffs.
The museum is located in a well-preserved Vietnamese house.
Be aware that the majority of the collection consists of ancient shards and fragments.
How to Get There
The Museum of Trade Ceramics is located at 80 Tran Phu Street, in the center of the Ancient Town UNESCO World Heritage Site. Because the Old Town is pedestrianized, the museum can only be reached on foot. Most visitors prefer to visit as part of a guided tour of the Old Town in order to skip the hassle of navigation.
Trip ideas
When to Get There
The museum is open daily from 8am to 5pm. If you’re looking to explore the Old Town and want to beat the crowds, try to arrive as early as possible. Sunrise is a magical time to wander along the riverside.
Purchasing a Hoi An Old Town Ticket
Although you don’t technically need an admission ticket to explore Hoi An Ancient Town—checks are very loosely enforced unless you’re with a tour guide—you need to purchase a pass to enter certain museums and heritage houses, including the Museum of Trade Ceramics. The cost of the 24-hour ticket required to access five of the 22 heritage sites goes toward the restoration and upkeep of the UNESCO World Heritage Site’s historic structures.
