You will enjoy hiking and a variety of other experiences in a traditional Japanese house, surrounded by plenty of greenery. During the hike, a nature guide will explain to you the history of the town, which used to be known for a therapeutic bathhouse and its unique local flora and fauna. In the traditional Japanese house part of the experience, you will catch ayu fish and cook it on a Japanese hearth (called irori) for lunch. The menu consists of grilled ayu fish, white rice, Japanese pickles and other side dishes. At the house, you will work together with the local people to use the Japanese style fireplace and cook the fish. There will also be a general introduction to elements of the house, such as the hearth, tokonoma (alcove), shoji (paper sliding doors) and you will learn about the difference between a townhouse and a farmhouse.
