The Basics

Visitors can explore the castle’s modest interior and climb to the top of the 75-foot (22-meter) tower for daytime views over Galway Bay, or purchase tickets for a twice-nightly medieval banquet, which includes a 4-course candlelit dinner complete with Celtic music, mead, and storytelling. The castle is also seen on guided day tours from Galway and Dublin that typically also visit other area attractions such as the Cliffs of Moher, the Burren, and the Aillwee Cave, as well as parts of the Wild Atlantic Way.

The tour was very well organised. John was very nice and his knowledge about the region was extremely insightful. The place for lunch was very good, especially since it was completely carbon neutral, as explained by out waitress Cecile.

Cliffs of Moher and Burren Day Trip, Including Dunguaire Castle, Aillwee Cave, and Doolin from Galway
It was a wonderful day trip to the Burren, including the Cliffs of Mother, Aillwee Cave and some photo stops. Our driver and guide John was really great - he gave a lot of interesting and sometimes funny information during the bus drive, so time was passing quickly during driving. If he was not speaking (what happened rarely) we listened to traditional Irish music - it was a great day!

A Day of Western Ireland's Natural Beauty

Cliffs of Moher and Burren Day Trip, Including Dunguaire Castle, Aillwee Cave, and Doolin from Galway
I really enjoyed this tour, as it takes you on a scenic drive through some really beautiful landscapes in western Ireland. The bus is quite comfortable and the driver told us quite a bit about the areas we were driving through. The stops at Aillwee Cave and the Cliffs of Moher give you plenty of time to enjoy visit and learn about these natural wonders. At the stop in Doolin, we got to enjoy a reasonably priced lunch in a very cozy little pub.

Our tour guide was spectacular and could tell her truly enjoyed his job. The tour was great. Although the Cliffs were beautiful, it was great listening to all the interesting stories our tour guide told us about the different areas.

Thanks to our guide and the detailed information from the tour. Also he planned the trip according to weather and that is essential in Ireland

Tips for Photographing Dunguaire Castle

Dunguaire is often touted as the most photographed castle in Ireland. With its fabulous setting on the edge of Galway Bay, it’s not hard to see why so many have pointed their lenses in its direction. To get the perfect shot, check out the Galway Bay tide times in advance and schedule your visit for when the tide is in so you can capture the castle’s reflection in the water below.
