Cong, Ireland

The Basics

Surrounded by lakes, forests, and streams, Cong is a charming village near Connemara best known as the location for the 1952 movie The Quiet Man. Visitors can head to the Quiet Man Museum, which includes an exact replica of the White O’Morn cottage from the movie; take walks through the surrounding countryside; do some boating on the nearby river; and enjoy the village’s small shops and cafes.

The village of Cong sits next to the 350-acre Ashford Castle estate, which was once owned by the Guinness family and is now home to one of the country’s best five-star hotels. Several day trips from Galway City and multi-day tours from Dublin include Cong and the surrounding region on their itineraries.

A great tour!
Wonderful day, despite the rain! We have taken many tours over the years, but nothing tops this one! Doran s family roots are from this area and he is a fountain of information! It was only myself and my husband but the tour carried on. If you are in this area, this trip is a MUST! You will not be disappointed!

Galway to Cong Full Day Tour
I would highly recommend this charming owner operated tour. The guide is very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the area. The village of Cong is where the quiet man with John Wayne was filmed so you should definitely watch that movie before you go. Lots of history and lots of beautiful countryside to be seen.

Connemara and Cong Village Day Trip from Dublin
It's hard to tell what I loved the most about Ireland, but I guess Connemara could be just it: my favorite place in this country! The nature is stunning, with such bright colours for winter time! It was lovely to see the wild horses and sheeps, and Kylemore Abbey is fantastic even if, unluckily, I booked exactly in the time when they were working on it so a big part of it was covered, still amazing though!

This was a great tour. The guide was very passionate and informative about the area. He did not take shortcuts due to the rain. He completed the tour regardless of the weather. There were only 5 passengers which made for a more personal tour. This is not a big bus tour.

Connemara and Cong Village Day Trip from Dublin
The way before our tour finally started has been a bit exhausting and all in all not well planed, but the tour itself has been amazing. Our tour guide Michael told us a lot about the area, stories about the families and the names. He was a lovely and funny tour guide and got us safely back to Galway. We can recommend this tour

Our day trip to visit Cong was wonderful. Doron picked us up at our hotel so we wouldn't have to try to find our meeting location. That's awesome. Doron was very informative and we learned so much about Ireland and Cong history from him. We were very impressed that most Irish are very very proud of being Irish like Doron and more than willing to learn about the family history from his ancestors. We were happy to have visited the Ashford Castle. We really wished we could have gone inside for a hot chocolate or coffee or lunch or something. Maybe Doron can do some magic and organize that for his future guests after the boat ride. That would be a wonderful treat!! :-)....We still had a wonderful time walking the grounds of Ashford Castle and had nice cruise on the lake. We enjoyed our lunch in town at a pub. We were there during the off season so not much was opened and we understood that. Cong was soooo quaint. We wish we had more time to explore and go hiking in the area where the Pigeon Hole was. It was very beautiful and peaceful. Thank you Doron for showing us around. We would totally recommend Doron and High King for your trip. We hope to revisit Ireland in the future....Steve & CeeCee

The Best Tour in Ireland

Galway to Cong Full Day Tour
We just returned from a 10-day trip through Ireland. We traveled with a travel agency on a bus and a large group of people, we also booked couple private tours. The Cong tour was really the best of ALL! Small group of 15 people and a driver-guide. We saw and learned so-so much! Multiple historical points and beautiful nature sceneries. Doron was an amazing guide - he is proud to be local, he knows local history better than anybody else I heard, and at the same time, he presents it with humor, folk stories and myths, and makes it lively and not boring. I would certainly recommend this tour to everybody.

Galway to Cong Full Day Tour
Truly an amazing day with a local from Ireland. I read many reviews and it was the reason for why I booked this tour was that it was a small group tour and it was done by a local Irish man. That is absolutely the case. Not only was I the only person that booked that day and the tour still operated so it was a private tour for me, but Doron spoke about his hometown area and people with such passion that I feel this made the tour special for me when he spoke about the History of this area but then added in personal stories along the way. I definitely recommend this tour!
