Lokrum Island, Dubrovnik

The Basics

Just 10 minutes by boat from Dubrovnik, Lokrum Island is an easy day trip from Croatia’s Adriatic Coast. While some visitors take the ferry from Dubrovnik’s Old Harbour and explore the island independently, others go as part of guided tours. Sea kayaking and snorkeling tours often circle the island, as do jet-skiing tours. Yacht and speedboat cruises departing from Dubrovnik will often sail around the island’s scenic shoreline.

Banko was very friendly and enthusiastic! Ending at the Iron Throne on Lokrum Island leaves the rest of the day to beach and swim

Dubrovnik and Lokrum island sea kayak tour
Drajan led a wonderful kayak tour from Banje Beach to the nearby locations of the Old City, Lokrum Island, and Bettina Cave. The pace was a perfect mix of paddling and sight seeing. Boats and equipment were great. Enjoyed our co-travelers too from all over the world. Don’t hesitate to book.

GAME OF THRONES Lokrum Special
Excellent guide in Davor who was very knowledgable and also very witty and entertaining. You do need to be a fan of the show to pick this one though. My daughter isn’t and didn’t get the benefit of the tour. Unfortunately the lokrum part of our tour was cancelled due to high winds and the ferry not running. I am unable to give a full account as we did not get the full excursion.

Dubrovnik and Lokrum island sea kayak tour
Drazen and Ivo were great guides and the trip was well organized but relaxed. The kayaks were new and everything went perfectly. The scenery was spectacular and we had two nice swims, with everything at a leisurely pace.

GAME OF THRONES Lokrum Special
This is a great introduction to the city, you will see pretty much all of the main sites. Davor was such a great guide, and took the time to make the tour special with fun photos and videos. One note, you CAN pay for the lokrum ferry with credit card despite what the description says. The ticket stand has a machine.

Dubrovnik and Lokrum island sea kayak tour
Tour is really easy, even with kids (mine are 10 and 13). We had one stop to swim then went all around Lokrum island, that is beautiful. Just regret we had only 1 stop to do snorkeling.

Drazen was a wonderful guide. It was a small group and we had a very nice trip. It is a good way to get some exercise while seeing Dubrovnik and Lokrum by water. I highly recommend the trip!

Such a fun tour for Got fans and a nice way to see the city. Davor was a great guide and showed us parts of the city we would have otherwise overlooked. Would highly recommend

Darvos our tour guide was the best. He not only knew about the GOT stuff, but he knew the history. We referred to him as the most handsome man in the city. The trip to Locum was worth it, I would do it all over again. Take a bathing suit if you do a trip to Locum because there is a wonderful little spot to take a swim and have some cocktails. The cocktails by the swimming spot had the best drinks and if you are definitely a GOT fan you have to try the GOT drink, it is delicious. To add to it Darvos was an extra on GOT and there is a picture of him in the Split GOT museum.

Definitely one my favourite experiences in Dubrovnik. Our tour guide Davor was amazing. He is so much fun and a GOT geek. Also the only tour that takes you to see the Iron Throne in Lokrum Island.

When to Get There

Lokrum Island is accessible from April through November, weather-permitting. July is the driest and sunniest month, making it an excellent time to visit. Lokrum tends to be more humid in the afternoon than in the morning, so plan more strenuous activities, such as hiking, for earlier in the day.

What to See on The Island

A designated nature reserve, Lokrum features many tree-shaded walking paths. One highlight of the island is the star-shaped Fort Royal, which was constructed by the French in the early 19th century. Today the fort offers wonderful views of Dubrovnik and the town of Cavtat to the south. And be sure to check out the Dead Sea, a salt lake with calm, sheltered waters suitable for children and less-confident swimmers.
