Historic Cold Spring Village
Step back in time to the “age of homespun” (1789-1840) at Historic Cold Spring Village. Spanning 30 acres (12 hectares), Cold Spring Village is the largest open-air living history museum in New Jersey. See history come to life through its 27 restored historic buildings, costumed interpreters, demonstrations, and interactive activities.
The Basics
Start off at the air-conditioned welcome center, with an orientation video and Cape May County history exhibit. Then explore the village on a self-guided tour. See restored historic buildings from the area and authentic reconstructions, such as a blacksmith shop, wood shop and print shop, a schoolhouse, and a working farm, complete with farm animals. Watch demonstrations of crafts and trades, such as basket weaving and tinsmithing. There's an activity area with crafts and games for children.
Things to Know Before You Go
Cold Spring Village is ideal for families and history buffs.
There’s a restaurant, brewery, bakery, ice cream parlor, and gift shop on-site.
Outside food and drinks are not permitted.
Parts of the village are wheelchair accessible; not all historic buildings have ramps, though.
Pets are welcome on the village grounds, but must be kept on a leash.
How to Get There
The Village is located on Route 9, about three miles (five kilometers) north of Cape May City, and about four miles (6.4 kilometers) south of the Rio Grande. The main entrance is on Route 9, with an additional entrance and parking lot on Seashore Road. Use the Seashore Road entrance to access the restaurant and brewery.
When to Get There
The village is open Tuesday through Sunday from June to September. Special events are held most weekends. Weekday activities include horse-drawn carriage rides, historic games, and crafts. Check the schedule to avoid disappointment.
