Canterbury Cathedral, Cathedral House, 11 The Precincts, Canterbury, United Kingdom, CT1 2EH

The Basics

The cathedral’s distance from London makes it a prime stop on a tour of the South. Combine your visit with stops at other landmarks, such as Leeds Castle and Dover Cliffs, for a full day’s break from the capital, or take advantage of multi-attraction tours that allow you to explore London and beyond at your own pace. Opt for a guided cathedral tour for intimate insight, or be immersed as you explore the historic grounds independently.

Canterbury Cathedral, Dover Castle & White Cliffs Guided Day Tour from London
Communication was perfect. Timings spot on. Would've preferred a bit more time at white cliffs of Dover. But overall fantastic experience. Our guide Kirsten and driver Clive were very friendly and lovely people. I would consider booking through Anderson tours in the future.

Leeds Castle, Canterbury Cathedral, Dover and Greenwich from London
The tour guide, Tony, was great and very knowledgeable. We really enjoyed visiting Leeds Castle and seeing the cliffs especially. We ended up seeing the cliffs from afar from the beach. Canterbury Cathedral was beautiful, but is under construction right now.

Leeds Castle, Canterbury Cathedral, Dover and Greenwich from London
I went Leeds Castle and Canterbury. It was fun to see the castle which the grounds and the castle are beautiful. Stopped at Dover to see the White Cliffs. Dover is a great little place by the Channel. Pablo was friendly and very knowledgeable about the history. This was a half English and Spanish speaking tour. I met some great people and had a good time. I would definitely do the tour again!

The Significance of Canterbury Cathedral

As the home of the Church of England, Canterbury Cathedral holds a special relationship with English history and culture. The Kingdom of Kent was the first to convert to Christianity under Rome, and Archbishop Thomas Becket’s murder in 1170 solidified the building’s religious and political importance. The cathedral has links to William the Conqueror and the Magna Carta, and was immortalized by the father of English literature, Geoffrey Chaucer, in his famous Canterbury Tales.
