Palace of Parliament (Palatul Parlamentului) Tours
3 Reviews

If you’re in Bucharest, it’s impossible to miss the Palace of Parliament. The massive building, which dominates the city landscape, spans around 2,552,090 square feet (237,097 square meters) and contains more than 1,000 rooms. Built under the dictatorship of Nicolae Ceauşescu, it’s now one of Bucharest’s most popular tourist attractions.
The Basics
Home to the Romanian Senate and Chamber of Deputies, the Palace of Parliament also holds the National Museum of Contemporary Art, the Museum of Communist Totalitarianism, and the Museum of the Palace. The opulent interior can be seen only with a guide, on a standard tour (which visits hallways and main rooms) or an extended tour (which includes the terraces or basement). Book your tour well in advance, particularly during peak tourist season and when government meetings are scheduled.
A Palace of Parliament tour can easily be combined with a half-, full-, or multi-day sightseeing excursion exploring top attractions in Bucharest and environs, such as the Village Museum, Old Town Bucharest, and the Romanian Athenaeum.
Things to Know Before You Go
- Visitors to the Palace of Parliament must present ID, such as a passport or driver’s license.
- There’s an additional fee to take photos inside.
- Some tours of the Palace of Parliament are wheelchair-accessible.
How to Get There
The Palace of Parliament is located in downtown Bucharest, near Constitution Square. Enter from Natiunile Unite Boulevard on the building’s northern side. The closest subway stations are Izvor and Unirii Square, and several buses also stop nearby.
When to Get There
The Palace of Parliament is open daily—hours vary depending on the season. Standard tours take about 45 minutes, while extended tours last around an hour.
Record-Breaking Numbers
The massive scale of the Palace of Parliament has set a few world records. It’s the heaviest building in the world, the second largest administrative building in the world (after the Pentagon), and the third largest building by volume in the world (after Teotihuacan and Cape Canaveral).
