Known for its fairly calm surf, Anaeho'omalu Bay offers rentals of an assortment of water toys ranging from kayaks to boogie boards. It’s also a popular spot to snorkel, so if you packed your gear, bring it along. The beach has a bit of a wild side when it comes to animal life. Turtles seem to like it here just as much as people, so take plenty of pictures to show everyone back home, but be sure to keep a safe distance.
The most pleasant time to visit the Kona side of the Big Island is during the winter months, when temperatures are a little cooler. You're also likely to spot humpback whales when you visit during this time. However, the beach can get busy during this popular season so just remember: the earlier you go, the smaller the crowds.
The beach is located next to the Waikoloa Beach Marriott, on the western coast of the Big Island of Hawaii, about a half-hour drive north of the Kona International Airport and 15-minutes inland to Waikoloa Village. It's easiest to get to by taxi or rental car, as bus service is limited in the area.
