El Tablao de Carmen
El Tablao de Carmen is one of Barcelona’s best flamenco shows, honoring one of the world’s greatest flamenco dancers, Carmen Amaya. Known for her skill, passion, technique, and fiery personality, Carmen—a native of Barcelona—performed at this very site for King Alfonso XIII of Spain during the opening of the 1929 Universal Exposition.

The Basics
This intimate venue, fashioned after an Andalucian corral, hosts nightly flamenco performances with a lineup of up to eight artists, including four bailaor (flamenco dancers), two guitarists, and two cantaor (flamenco singers). Travelers have a few ticket options to choose from. The most basic includes a show and drink, while other packages include dinner and a show with various menus of traditional Spanish cuisine. The venue hosts two shows nightly, and your ticket includes free entrance to the Poble Espanyol re-created Spanish village.

Things to Know Before You Go

  • El Tablao de Carmen offers a romantic night out for visiting couples.
  • It’s a good idea to book ahead, especially during summer, to avoid disappointment.
  • Vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, and dairy-free menus are available.

How to Get There
El Tablao de Carmen is located in the Andalucian section of the Poble Espanyol de Montjuïc. To get there, take the Barcelona Metro to Plaça Espanya (lines 1 and 3) and walk up the hill, or take a bus to Poble Espanyol.

When to Get There

El Tablao de Carmen stages two performances nightly Tuesday to Sunday. Performances tend to sell out during the busy season, so be sure to book your tickets ahead of time.

The History of Flamenco in Barcelona
Traditional flamenco was born in Andalucia in Southern Spain during the 18th century and didn’t make its way north to Barcelona until the second half of the 19th century. As more and more Andalucian-born Spaniards moved to Barcelona for work, they brought with them their flamenco traditions.

Thanks this was an amazing experience. I would definitely go back. You get so much tapas for your money and drinks. Was filling and the show was amazing.

Great show; horrible food.

The show was fantastic; however, the food was terrible. Only two choices for dinner, fish or roast beef; nearly everyone in our group chose roast beef and it was not edible (everyone left untouched) - it was almost leathery. It would be 1-star if not for the great performers.

SUPER DISAPPOINTING AND A WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY

We booked the show with a Tapas meal. The tapas was fine but the show was a disaster. We actually joked and said that the reserve dancer team was on duty. The show was amateurish and not rehearsed. It was almost as if they made it up as they went along. When one of the dancers tried to make a dance move with the chair, which totally flopped, the other dancers burst out in laughter. The show was so short that when they finished everyone sat around waiting for the next dance, only to realize that that was it...We have seen better Spanish dance shows in South Africa. This show was a totally waste of time and money and I would definitely not recommend it to anyone

Flamenco Experience at Tablao de Carmen with Dinner or Drink

star-4.5
Be swept up in the passion of Andalucian flamenco at Barcelona’s Tablao de Carmen, one of the city’s best-known ‘tablaos’ or flamenco bars. Make your own way to the tablao in the Spanish Village and enjoy an electrifying flamenco show of flamboyant dancing, singing, hand clapping and rousing guitar music. Choose from two show times and opt to enjoy a drink, tapas or 3-course dinner before the performance. Your experience includes admission to the Spanish Village, a recreation of a traditional Spanish town filled with craft shops, cafés and museums.
