Botanical Garden of Barcelona
Located on the slopes of Montjuïc Mountain, the Botanical Garden of Barcelona spans 35 acres (14 hectares). Dedicated to protecting and promoting Mediterranean plants, the garden is home to more than 1,300 species from Australia, California, Chile, South Africa, and the Mediterranean Basin.

The Basics

The plants are arranged by geography and ecological affinity, with paths and walkways winding around the garden. See cypress and eucalyptus in the Australian zone; pines and chaparral in the California zone; olive trees in the Mediterranean zone; and dragon trees in the Canary Islands zone. Highlights include banksia, bread palms, hyacinths of Peru, Mexican blue palm, Port Jackson fig, and the stone pine.

Purchase individual tickets, or combo tickets that also include special exhibitions or entry to the Natural Science Museum. Visit on a hop-on hop-off bus tour to see Barcelona sights at your leisure. Full or discounted admission to the gardens is included in several multi-attraction passes that also include free public transport.

Things to Know Before You Go
  • Special exhibitions require a separate admission fee.
  • Don’t forget your camera to capture stunning views over Barcelona.
  • There is limited shade in the garden, so bring a hat and sunscreen.
  • Special activities geared toward children and families are available.
  • The garden is wheelchair-accessible.

How to Get There

Take the metro (Line L1, L3, or L8) to Plaza España, then either walk up Montjuïc or take bus No. 13 to the Jardí Botànic Station. Or take the Red Route of the Barcelona Bus Turístic to the Anella Olímpica stop and follow Passeig Olímpic around the Olympic stadium to the entrance.

When to Get There
The Botanical Garden of Barcelona is open year-round, with the exception of Jan. 1, May 1, June 24, and Dec. 25. Free entry is offered the first Sunday of every month, every Sunday after 3pm, and Feb. 10, May 18, and Sept. 24.

Historical Botanical Garden of Barcelona

The Historical Botanical Garden of Barcelona is also located on Montjuïc Mountain, on the other side of Olympic Stadium from the Botanical Garden of Barcelona. Highlights include a typical Catalan farmhouse, an organic garden with local Catalan vegetables, a sensory garden, and a waterfall.
