The Basics

The famous floating market is commonly visited on half- and full-day tours from Bangkok. Popular options include a guided boat ride along the canal in a long-tailed speedboat or umbrella-shaded paddle boat and a riverside group bike excursion that explores the countryside and nearby canals (klongs) for a better appreciation of local life.

Both group and private tours are available, and round-trip transportation from Bangkok is typically included. Because the market wraps up around midday, the experience is often coupled with a visit to the Sampran riverside Thai village or the stupa at Phra Pathom Chedi (Phra Pathommachedi) in Nakhon Pathom, the tallest stupa in Thailand.

Long day and crazy early start but good fun and the guide was fantastic. I was running late and he waited, never complained. Even went out of their way to drop us close to our hotel although we didn’t have the tour with that option. Would definitely use these guys again. Funny and informative.

Private Tour: Floating Markets of Damnoen Saduak Cruise Day Trip from Bangkok
Greetings, The tour guide was very knowledgeable and engaging. The driver was also very professional and safe. The trip to the Floating Market in the long boat was very fun. Once at the FM, we needed to pay for the paddle boat for a 1/2 ride through the channels. This was also very fun. For the price we paid for the tour, this should have been included and for a longer period.

Half-Day Railway Market and Floating Market Tour in Thailand
Wonderful trip. Amy is great- she went over and above providing commentary on the bus en route. She even handed out refreshments, local fried bananas to try. Very careful and protective of the group. Visits very interesting. Both railway and floating markets worth seeing. Highly recommend this,

Half-Day Railway Market and Floating Market Tour in Thailand
Pick-up on time. Great tour guide and driver. Only one suggestion is to have more time on the train than floating market.

Private Damnoen Saduak Floating Market and Train Market Tour
Definitely recommend! Jimmy was an awesome guide and gave us a local's view into the train market and the floating market. He likes durian and it was the first time I tried it (yuck! haha). The pick up and ride in the van was very comfortable. There was good communication with the tour company.

Private Tour: Floating Markets of Damnoen Saduak Cruise Day Trip from Bangkok
Arranging the trip was simple and the cost very competitive. Our private guide, Pearl was both friendly and knowledgeable. The length of the trip was just about right, with the part if the trip by (James Bond) long tail boat being the highlight

Half-Day Railway Market and Floating Market Tour in Thailand
I'd rate it higher if I could. Kat was wonderful. The train trip and market were astonishing. The long tail boat ride was fun even though it was a bit uncomfortable. The floating market was interesting though it could have been a bit shorter. The little boat ride was OK. Fun to do though a bit touristy. The only downside was that the van was pretty uncomfortable for such lengthy rides.

Fun trip to the markets

Floating Market & Railway Market
Market tours are as described. It is a 2 hour drive to arrive at the floating market and about another 20 minutes to the railway market. Guides/drivers speak limited English, but are able to give the needed information. There are 2 boat rides at the market. A small boat thru where the venders on boats are selling their products. The second boat ride is a larger motorized boat around the outside of the market. You will be on your own to tour the markets. We are independent travelers, and ok with this tour, but if you want to be guided thru the market by a guide this is not the tour for you.

Half-Day Railway Market and Floating Market Tour in Thailand
The tour as an overall was good as you won’t be able to experience the floating nor train markets anywhere in the world. You do this only once in your lifetime 😁

Things to Know Before You Go

  • There is no admission fee for the market.

  • Remember to wear a hat and sunblock—much of the market is shadeless.

  • Some of the vendor offerings are geared toward locals, while others typically sell souvenirs to travelers.

  • Pay attention to your valuables and be courteous when taking photos of vendors or their goods.

  • Vendors generally accept only Thai baht as payment.

How to Get There

Damnoen Saduak Floating Market is located some 62 miles (100 kilometers) southwest of downtown Bangkok city in the southern part of the Ratchaburi province, a journey of about 90 minute by road. Most visitors arrive by organized tour from Bangkok, though it is possible to take a taxi or public bus.

When to Get There

The market runs every morning from 7am to 11am. Arrive early for the best pick of the produce and to spend the most time wandering amid the vendors before boat traffic picks up around 9am. Getting there early also helps beat the heat, especially during the sweltering months of March, April, and May. Toward midday, when vendors pack up, it may be possible to negotiate for better deals.

What to Buy at the Damnoen Saduak Floating Market

To make the most of your market tour, you may want to interact with vendors and purchase some of their unusual, delicious, and practical goods. Sample durian, order fried bananas served via fishing pole, or select a straw hat from a canalside stall. Whatever you choose, you’ll need to bring Thai baht in small bills and bartering skills. Bartering is part of the local culture and will help to get you the best price.
