The Basics

There are a variety of ways to experience the Sky Tower, whether you want to enjoy panoramic views of Waitemata Harbour, Waiheke Island, and Auckland from the Sky Deck; grab a drink at the Sky Lounge Café; dine at the gourmet Sugar Club; or grab a bite at the more casual Orbit Revolving Restaurant.

Visit the tower on a hop-on, hop-off bus tour to see the attraction at your own pace, or see it on an Auckland city highlights tour to also catch other top sights such as Queen Street, the Auckland Domain, and Rangitoto Island. It’s also possible to admire the tower from afar during a scenic harbor cruise or soar overhead on a helicopter or seaplane flight.

Don't miss it.
Just do it. Go to the top have lunch or dinner if you can. For us it was certainly a highlight of our brief visit to Aukland.

Auckland Shore Excursion: City Sightseeing Tour, Harbor Cruise and Sky Tower
We had an excellent tour. Simon our driver made extra stops as well, so that we can get the most of our trip. He was very knowledgeable and made this excursion an unforgettable trip. Thank you so much.

It was fun I can say I’ve seen it it’s not as tall as the CN Tower which I’ve been to so height wise it wasn’t that impressive but it’s still fun to see

Auckland Shore Excursion: City Sightseeing Tour, Harbor Cruise and Sky Tower
Everything was fine and my wife and I enjoyed the tour. 1 star deducted for lack of information of the harbour cruise. We were asked to wear the sticker on our clothing and make our way to pier 2 ticket office for exchange of tickets. When we got there, the staff didn’t know anything about it and asked if we had paid etc and eventually we pilled the sticker out and he saw a serial number which must have been the booking number and staff was able to trace our records and then it was fine. Otherwise perfect.

Auckland Shore Excursion: City Sightseeing Tour, Harbor Cruise and Sky Tower
This tour was very uncoordinated as compared to others. Bus pick up stop said it was in front of a building, beside another at a bus stop numbered. Well due to construction, bus stop had been moved to a temporary spot, bus was late and then we find out there are many different tours on same bus with different expectations from each. Female bus driver was not very pleasant, You need better explanations of just what is included ie bus did not return us to pick up spot and that was not included in our paperwork.

When to Get There

The tower is open year-round but can get crowded in peak season; opt for an early morning visit to avoid crowds. For budding photographers wanting to capture the views, the most flattering lighting usually occurs just before sunset or at night, when Auckland’s city lights spark to life. The tower also forms the centerpiece of city celebrations such as New Year’s Eve and the Chinese New Year, when fireworks are set off from the top and the tower’s facade is illuminated with festive colors.
