The Basics

The Agora of Athens is considered the best preserved example of an ancient Greek agora in the world. Visit with a guide for expert insight into these ruins, which can be hard to interpret on one’s own. For independent travelers, the hop-on-hop-off bus and downloadable audio guide of the archaeological site provides both transportation and extra information.

Join a private or small-group walking tour that includes skip-the-line tickets—a must for these popular and crowded ruins—as well as a visit to the Agora Museum. Or, opt for a tour that pairs a visit to the Agora with the Acropolis. Look for a family-focused tour if visiting with kids; some guides specialize in making the site come to life for younger travelers.

If I could give it more than 5 stars, I would. I cannot say enough great things about this tour. It's perfect for your first day of arrival to keep you awake and get an overview of the city. Plus it's super fun to ride a segway. They tour guide, Chris, and the manager were incredibly friendly and helpful and kind. Chris is an excellent guide and segway teacher! Highly Highly Recommend!

Julio was a great and very informative host with all the knowledge of the history of Athens. The bike route was fun and had many opportunities to rest and stay hydrated. Be prepared to bring a water bottle to refill. A bonus was the special treat during one of the breaks. Very awesome experience for me and my wife. A+++ highly recommended

Mythological Greek tour

Athens Highlights: a Mythological Tour
Very good guide who helped us see the sites from an interesting mythological perspective, one we would not have seen on our own. Great time. Started to get very hot at the end of the tour, which started at 8:30 and finished at 12:30. Highly recommend the tour. Recommend you purchase your Complete Pass prior to the tour — can do it on line — as you need this to enter the sites. The tour does not provide entrance. Only suggestion is to make it a bit earlier to avoid the heat at noon.

Electric Bike Tour of Athens by Night
This was my last night in Greece and I decided it would be nice to see the sights in lights and it did not disappoint. Such a nice ride. I was a little worried about riding alongside the cars in Athens, but it wasn't bad at all

Athens Full Day Private Sightseeing Tour
I am so happy we booked this tour. Our driver Fotis was very knowledgeable and gave us interesting background to all the sites making that excursion a special event for us. He is very experienced and a great storyteller! I can really recommend this educational tour as the right way to see Athens and also to enjoy the places with the best greek food.

The History of the Agora of Athens

The Agora of Athens, where Socrates once expounded his philosophy, dates back to the 6th century BC. This vast area lies to the northwest of the Acropolis and once featured an elaborate drainage system, a series of fountains, and a temple devoted to the Olympian Gods. The Agora was finally abandoned after a Slavic invasion in the 6th century.
