The Basics
Get to know a trove of historic items: 70 major exhibits, 30 multimedia experiences, 12 custom interactive experiences, 11 original films, 10 archival film sequences, more than 600 photos and 300 artifacts, and around 8,000 square feet (743 square meters) of wall murals. Sit in the replica Oval Office, admire the replica East Room, tour Nixon’s birthplace, walk the Pat Nixon Gardens, and visit the helicopter in which he left the White House.
Things to Know Before You Go
How to Get There
The museum is located in Yorba Linda, about 40 miles (64 kilometers) southeast of Los Angeles. There is free parking on-site. The Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) bus line Nos. 20, 26, and 131 also stop nearby.
When to Get There
The museum is open daily, with holiday closures for Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and New Year's Day. Arrive early to view the helicopter exhibit, which closes at dark.
Nixon’s Birthplace
Make a point to tour the house where President Nixon was born in 1913, located on the grounds. The simple clapboard house was built by President Nixon’s father in 1912, and the family lived there until 1922. In 1990, the house became a part of the private Richard Nixon Library and Birthplace, a precursor to the current Presidential Library and Museum. The house was renovated to replicate how it would have looked when the Nixon family lived there.
