Making fresh food at home in one of my passions. I am particularly fascinated by the cheese-making process, by its beauty and magic. I am a designer and work with ceramics and food design. I make porcelain molds that create different shapes on the cheese. My research is around what homemade cheese in a city can become. I enjoy sharing with people from different countries, I have lived in five countries which makes me attracted to international environments. I have lived in the Netherlands for twelve years and I live in the Old West neighborhood in Amsterdam. It is a beautiful, calm and at the same time a trendy place to be, my favorite in the city. Here I live with my partner and my two daughters.
Cooking class 'Stroopwafel' and a small beer tasting. Even something simple as making a Stroopwafel have some hidden tricks. For example: fresh vanilla and using dark brown local beer. Don't worry, we will teach you! Instead of using milk, we use a Dutch ‘Dark-brow’ Dubbel beer, to give it even more flavour. (search more at: stroopwaffle.org) Fun fact Did you know The Dutch have a rich tradition of drinking beer, around 1700 it was considered healthier (and safer) to drink beer instead then water? While the dough is rising, we’ll present you a small beer tasting where we will teach you more about Dutch Double beer.
Imagine Anne Frank would meet Rembrandt. What would they discuss? Well, why not the place where they lived: Amsterdam. It is the starting point of a sparkling one-man theater show, in which Jaap Vriend tells the intriguing story of the rise of Amsterdam. In the Torpedo Theatre, Amsterdam smallest but most beautiful venue (a true hidden gem!), Entertainer Jaap Vriend leaves the beaten track of tulips, joints and clogs. Instead he narrates the town's most important historical moments like the miracle of Amsterdam, intertwined with the inspiring biographies of influential inhabitants such as Rembrandt, Spinoza and Anne Frank. Vriend will add a local touch through personal experiences, jokes and songs about his beloved Amsterdam. In this show curious visitors or inhabitants of Amsterdam are able to travel through the Amsterdam ages, meet its world-famous celebrities and locations and learn why this world village is known as the most tolerant city in the world. A unique experience!
