Abu Dhabi Cruise Terminal Tours

Abu Dhabi Cruise Terminal
The Abu Dhabi Cruise Terminal, also called Zayed Port, is located on the northern tip of Abu Dhabi island, about 3 miles (5 kilometers) from the city center. While the port has a state-of-the-art terminal and shopping area, there are no other on-site attractions, so new arrivals immediately venture out into the city.
The Basics
Travelers arriving at the cruise port usually explore Abu Dhabi proper courtesy of full- or half-day shore excursions that include panoramic sightseeing, photo stops, and guided tours at key sights. Almost every tour features a visit to the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, as well as a drive along the skyscraper-lined Corniche and time at the Heritage Village, an interactive outdoor museum celebrating local Bedouin heritage. Some tours also add a visit to the Abu Dhabi Falcon Hospital, a health facility dedicated to caring for the United Arab Emirates’ much-prized national birds.
Things to Know Before You Go
  • Abu Dhabi’s attractions are fairly dispersed, and the heat can make walking or waiting for buses and cabs uncomfortable. The easiest option is to explore on guided tours that include air-conditioned transport between sights.
  • Bring a sunhat and sunscreen for even the shortest spells outdoors—the sun can be blisteringly hot.
  • Strict dress codes apply at the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque. Men must wear long pants and long-sleeved shirts, while women are required to don headscarves and long skirts. Most tours provide women with suitable covering robes if needed, for a small fee.
How to Get to Abu Dhabi from the Abu Dhabi Cruise Terminal
Cruise passengers walk or ride shuttle buses from dockside to the cruise terminal but need transport to the port exit and beyond. Metered taxis are plentiful outside the terminal, and many passengers use them to reach tour meeting points in the city center, as few shore excursions include port pickup or drop-off. Complimentary shuttle buses run from the terminal to the World Trade Centre Mall and Souk, both in Abu Dhabi’s city center.

Port Information
Many big cruise lines feature Abu Dhabi ports of call on their itineraries. Arabic is the UAE’s official language, but English is very widely spoken. The local currency is the UAE dirham, and the cruise terminal has an ATM and a foreign exchange bureau.
